A Controls Engineer is needed for a manufacturing company considered one of the world's leading innovators in materials science in the Painted Post, NY area. The Controls Staff Engineer is a senior-level role responsible for leading electrical controls projects for manufacturing process improvements, focusing on the design, implementation, and maintenance of PLC-based automation, robotics, and vision systems.

responsibilities:
- Lead medium to large-scale projects from Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) through Site Acceptance Test (SAT) to Plant Acceptance.
- Develop and maintain project-specific documentation on control systems.
- Lead or participate in capital projects involving Controls, Robots, and vision systems.
- Provide hands-on engineering support and technical leadership.
- Design, develop, integrate, and troubleshoot robotic, PLC, and vision system programs.
- Adhere to structured Software Development practices.
- Provide technical support for automation systems, including during non-standard hours.
- Serve as a technical leader and individual contributor, guiding and mentoring other engineers and technicians.
- Conduct training for plant engineers and technicians on new processes and equipment.
- strong knowledge of control theory, systems, and automation.
- Proficiency in PLC programming, HMI development, and network configuration.
- Hands-on experience with hardware platforms (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens, OMRON) and ladder logic programming.
- Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus).
- Fundamental understanding of PID loop tuning.
- Able to apply a systems engineering approach to complex systems.
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical/Computer Engineering or Computer Science.
- 7+ years of experience successfully implementing and integrating PLC systems.
