A Mechanical Technician is needed for a manufacturing company considered one of the world's leading innovators in materials science in the Newton, NC area. This role is focused on leading and supporting the mechanical aspects of capacity additions, which involves installing, debugging, troubleshooting, and improving manufacturing equipment while collaborating with vendors and ensuring project timelines and safety standards are met.

responsibilities:
- Focuses on capacity additions and related mechanical line installations and debug.
- Leads and/or participates in manufacturing engineering projects and support teams.
- Provides mechanical discipline to identify and solve technical problems (root cause analysis and robust solutions).
- Applies knowledge of mechanical engineering, machining, and design to improve equipment/process performance.
- Supports development and execution of project plans for timely, error-free mechanical support for multi-line equipment installations.
- Collaborates with vendors and suppliers to resolve technical issues and protect scope, timing, and cost metrics.
- Works cross-functionally to accomplish project goals.
- Maintain and promote safe work practices on the project team.
- Manage installation and debugging activities to meet project milestones and timelines.
- Design and implement mechanical solutions and process changes to improve equipment capability.
- Solve mechanical and process issues using data analysis, experience, and collaboration with SMEs.
- Manage spare part identification and storeroom entry within the plant footprint.
- Develop and update engineering and operations documentation.
- Support training for the operations workforce on equipment or process changes.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of mechanical systems (e.g., pumps, motors, conveyors, hydraulics, pneumatics).
- Align, test, and calibrate mechanical systems post-installation.
- Diagnose ** complex mechanical failures** and recommend effective solutions.
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals for troubleshooting.
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, and safety.
- Collaborate with other departments on process improvements.
Education: Associate's degree.
Experience:
- 3+ years in new equipment installations in a manufacturing environment (start-up experience is a plus).
- Experience in a fast-paced, changing environment with multiple priorities.
- strong technical fundamentals with mechanical engineering skills.
- Expertise in mechanical systems (hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings, gear systems, conveyor systems).
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
- Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and practices in an industrial setting.
- Basic computer skills for record-keeping and using CMMS.

Desired Skills:
- Hands-on experience with commercial manufacturing equipment.
- Project leadership/management experience (milestone and financial ownership).
- Experience in vendor/supplier management.
- Experience with CAD.
- Detail-oriented and able to perform with limited supervision.
- Relevant mechanical or industrial certifications (e.g., Millwright, HVAC, or Welding) are a plus.
- OSHA or other safety certifications may be required.
