A Senior Structural Engineer is needed for a global engineering, construction and project management company in the Ogden, UT area. This role requires an experienced professional to lead complex structural analysis, design, and coordination efforts, ensuring adherence to industry codes while supervising and mentoring junior team members.

responsibilities:
Design & Analysis:
- Designs structures using advanced knowledge of structural analysis (statics, dynamics, materials engineering).
- Determines appropriate use of structural elements (steel, wood, masonry, concrete) based on load/stress requirements.
- Independently executes detailed design of complex steel and/or concrete structures.
- Originates and checks complex structural engineering deliverables (steel/concrete calculations, specifications, material requisitions).
- Prepares or assists in preparing cost estimates and quantity take-offs.
- Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals.
- Plans, coordinates, or prepares equipment, work, and material specifications, bid evaluations, and award recommendations.
- Coordinates structural engineering efforts with specialty groups, other engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction, and other functional groups.
- Leads technical discussions and constructability reviews.
- Mentors and assists more junior structural team members.
- Prepares procurement and subcontract requisition documents and performs associated technical bid evaluations.
- Provides technical assistance to other structural personnel.
- Interacts with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agencies to resolve complex regulatory issues.
- Assists project and construction management with structural requirements and issue resolution during execution.
Technical Expertise:
- Thorough knowledge and application of: AISC Steel Construction Manual, ACI 318, IBC & ASCE 7
- Proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g., GTSTRUDL or STAAD.Pro).
- Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables (drawings, specifications, material requisitions).
- Thorough knowledge of construction methods for concrete and steel structures.
- Prior engineering team leadership experience (supervising others).
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Ability to express technical issues clearly and concisely.
- Ability to resolve design issues with subordinates, suppliers, other disciplines, construction, and the client.
- Understands work processes of other disciplines and departments.
Experience:
- 5-8 years of relevant experience with a relevant degree, OR
- 9-12 years of relevant work experience.
- Proficient in the use of Mathcad or similar software.
- Experience with procurement automation tools.
- Design experience with Unified Facilities Criteria and the Whole Building Design Guide.
- Intermediate knowledge of developing CSI Masterformat specifications, or SpecsIntact.
- Thorough knowledge of the provisions of ACI 349 and ASCE 4-98 standards.
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in USA (Civil or Structural Engineering).
- Possess active security clearance.
- Prior experience working with government agencies, preferably the Department of Defense.
