Large utility is looking for an Engineer in Cadillac, MI. This Engineer role (1-3 years' experience) with a minimum ABET Civil/Structural Engineering degree to build hydro experience by leading the Surveillance and Monitoring Program for 13 hydroelectric dams, requiring skills in data analysis, instrumentation, communication, and software proficiency to ensure compliance with FERC and public safety regulations. responsibilities:
- Support the Chief Dam Safety Engineer, Sr. Dam Safety Engineer, and analysts to meet FERC requirements.
- Ensure dam safety and public safety is maintained.
- Ensure professional quality work is supported.
- Work involves condition assessment, water conveyance, engineering studies, public safety, and FERC compliance.
- Lead the Surveillance and Monitoring Program.
- Evaluate surveillance/monitoring data and develop presentations (graphs/charts) for historical trends and anomaly identification.
- Lead a small Surveillance and Monitoring Review Committee, presenting data at quarterly meetings.
- Prepare monthly Surveillance and Monitoring Reports.
- Focus on continuous program improvements.
- Manage Dam Safety Instrumentation: initially learn from specialized engineering firms on equipment functionality, troubleshooting, data collection, and software, then take a lead role.
- Work with Operations staff on collecting piezometer, weir box, Surveyor, and underwater diver data to track trends and anomalies.
- Requires experience with engineering and/or technology software.
- Requires good written and oral communication skills.
- Requires a Bachelor's Engineering degree from an ABET accredited program, ideally in Civil / Structural Engineering.
- Requires 1-3 years of engineering experience, willing to build hydro experience.
