A Life Safety Systems Engineer is needed for an engineering consulting company in the Austin, TX area. This role is for a Life Safety Systems Engineer with a Bachelor's Degree and strong AutoCAD/BIM skills who will act as the Engineer of Record to design, model, and manage code-compliant fire protection and life safety solutions (including fire alarms, sprinklers, and toxic gas detection) for client facilities.

responsibilities:
- Solution Provision: Provide code-compliant asset protection and fire life safety mitigation solutions to clients.
- Design Ownership: Act as the Engineer of Record and take ownership of various projects.
- Fire sprinklers and gaseous agents.
- Fire detection and toxic gas detection.
- Smoke modeling and explosion prevention.
- Interface directly with client counterparts in facility design.
- Interface with state and local code officials.
- Create 3D BIM models using AutoCAD and Revit MEP in coordination with architects and engineers.
- Design fire sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, smoke and leak detection, and security/intrusion detection systems.
- Provide calculations, equipment size/quantities, equipment and construction specifications, network diagrams, and various construction deliverables in both 2D and 3D platforms.
- Team Collaboration: Provide guidance to co-workers and receive solutions/guidance from senior design professionals.
Education/Licensure:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (required).
- Ability to attain PE (Professional Engineer) licensure (required).
- PE license (Ideally/Highly desired).
- At least 4 years of AutoCAD design experience (required).
- Working knowledge of 3D BIM software (Revit) (Ideally desired).
- Experience using Revit MEP for 3D modeling.
- Knowledge of IFC (International Fire Code) and IBC (International Building Code).
- Knowledge and application of NFPA 101 Life Safety Code.
- Knowledge and application of NFPA 72 Fire Alarm and Signaling Code.
- Knowledge and application of NFPA 70 (NEC) and electrical design requirements.
- Knowledge and application of NFPA 400 Hazardous Materials Code.
- Knowledge of Fire Alarm Systems and manufacturers' equipment, including VESDA systems.
- Design experience with Fire Alarm, VESDA systems, security CCTV, HPM (Hazardous Production Material), and Leak Detection.
- Design experience in semiconductor or data centers (Ideally desired).
- Experience estimating and scheduling mid-to-large-scale projects.
- Experience leading projects and managing resources (Ideally desired).
- Design Management experience (Ideally desired).
- Experience mentoring junior staff (Ideally desired).
