Large utility is looking for a Electrical Engineer in Jackson, MI. This engineering role requires a self-motivated Electrical Engineer (ABET-accredited B.S. required) with analytical, communication, and MS Office skills to perform hands-on integration and testing of electrical hardware and software devices in substations, with experience in RTUs, DNP-3.0, IEC-61131, and high-level programming being highly desired.

responsibilities:
Engineering and Integration: Responsible for the engineering and integration of hardware and software for:

• Programmable/configurable devices.
  
  
• Substation network devices.
  
  
• Legacy electrical devices in electric substations and on electric lines.

Design Support: Support the detailed design of multiple projects based on CAD design drawings produced by others in the I&C Division.

Hands-on Prototyping and Testing: Work hands-on in a lab environment performing:

• System prototyping.
  
  
• Test setups.
  
  
• Connection/integration of devices.

Typical Devices: Work with devices such as programmable automation controllers, communications devices, network devices, Remote Terminal Units (RTU), protective and control relays, meters, transformer monitors/controllers, transducers, and generic controls for Intelligent Electrical Devices (IEDs).

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  
  
• Analytical Skills: strong analytical skills are required.
  
  
• Communication: Good clear oral and written communications skills and customer relations skills are required.
  
  
• Software Proficiency: Prior MS Access, MS Excel, and MS Word skills are required.

• Dedicated interest in the integration, connectivity design, networking, programming, and configuration of IEDs.
  
  
• Ability to work successfully in a diverse team environment with employees of varying technical skills and grade levels.

Desired (Optional) Skills and Experience

• Device Experience: Prior experience with programmable/configurable devices, such as RTUs, regulator, and recloser controls.
  
  
• Programming Standards: Experience with the IEC-61131 programming suite.
  
  
• Communication Protocols: Experience with the DNP-3.0 protocol (both serial and IP).
  
  
• High-Level Language: Experience programming in VB.NET or another high-level language.
