Randstad Engineering is recruiting on behalf of a major manufacturing leader for a Director of Industrial Wastewater Systems. This is a senior technical leadership role for a subject-matter expert in high-load industrial wastewater treatment.
The ideal candidate is a specialist with a profound understanding of the physical, biological, and chemical processes governing industrial wastewater treatment. This role requires dedicated expertise specifically in wastewater to complement the organization's existing specialists in other environmental media. This position is based at a flagship facility and requires an on-site presence, focusing on hands-on process optimization and strategic program development. The successful candidate must reside within commuting distance of the facility (located in the Fayetteville, NC area) or be willing to relocate. The position requires the ability to travel up to 50% to other facilities to work directly with their EHS teams as the wastewater subject-matter expert.

responsibilities:
Serve as the organization's foremost technical authority on wastewater treatment, leading advanced troubleshooting and process diagnostics for all operational challenges.
Conduct in-depth, on-site analysis of wastewater systems-including pretreatment, anaerobic/aerobic biological treatment, and nutrient removal-to identify and resolve inefficiencies.
Develop and standardize best-in-class operating procedures (SOPs) and innovative treatment strategies to be deployed across a national network of facilities.
Provide expert guidance and mentorship to facility-level operations teams, influencing process improvements and fostering a culture of technical excellence.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
Technical Expertise: Demonstrated mastery in the operation, management, or design of complex industrial wastewater systems. Progressive experience, ideally beginning with hands-on operator roles, is highly regarded.
Industrial Background: Extensive experience in industries with high-strength wastewater, such as protein processing (pork, poultry, beef), dairy, pulp and paper, or large-scale food and beverage manufacturing.
Leadership & Influence: Proven ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams and drive technical change in a matrixed environment.
Education: A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field, combined with 10+ years of progressive experience. An equivalent combination of extensive, direct experience and education will be considered.
