A CAD Technician is needed for a manufacturing company considered one of the world's leading innovators in materials science in the Christiansburg, VA area. The CAD Technician ensures the accuracy and accessibility of all technical drawings, applying SolidWorks proficiency and GD&T knowledge to support engineering, maintenance, and manufacturing design/troubleshooting.

responsibilities:
- Ensure accuracy, organization, and accessibility of all technical drawings.
- Support daily operations, cost reduction, and improvement projects.
- Create and manage technical drawings using technical design skills.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Maintenance, and Operations to develop and design equipment.
- Maintain and coordinate plant drawings (Drawing Control).
- Complete all required documentation (drawings, spare parts, procedures, schedules) for projects (Project Documentation).
- Design equipment for manufacturing (Design Development).
- Use technical drawings to resolve equipment issues with engineering and maintenance (Troubleshooting Assistance).
- Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD software.
- Experience with Microsoft Excel.
- strong problem-solving and design skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
- Skills to create detailed drawing packages and update manufacturing drawings.
- Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Ability to work both team-based and independently.
- Experience with AutoCAD.
- Familiarity with manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems (hands-on experience is a plus).
- Advanced computer skills.
- Experience with extrusion additive manufacturing (3D printing).
- Familiarity with SolidWorks PDM or similar drawing vault systems.
- A 2-year technical degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Electromechanical Engineering, CAD/CAM, or Manufacturing; or equivalent experience with a drafting certificate.
- 2 years in a relevant field.
