Our client is a leading national design-build and construction management firm specializing in complex, high-availability projects across the Mission Critical (Data Center) and Industrial sectors. We are urgently expanding our field staff and seek sharp, proactive engineers to ensure the quality and speed of our power infrastructure delivery.
Position Summary
The Field Engineer is a technical expert responsible for on-site quality assurance, complex system testing, and technical support during the execution phase of mission-critical power projects. This role serves as the critical liaison between the engineering office, equipment vendors, and field construction crews, ensuring strict compliance with design specifications.

responsibilities:
I. System Testing & Validation
- Testing & Scripting: Develop detailed test scripts based on schematics, Sequence of Operation (SOO), and logic diagrams; perform rigorous system-level automation and interlock system tests.
- Relay & PLC: Provide technical field support for relay programming and PLC operations, including basic configuration, upload/download of logic, and troubleshooting.
- Component Understanding: Maintain a strong working knowledge of CT, PT, metering, and protective relaying (SEL, ABB, Siemens) functionality.
- Vendor Coordination: Conduct essential vendor coordination and meticulous submittal review to ensure materials are accurate and complete.
- Factory Witness Testing (FAT): Travel to vendor facilities to conduct mandatory Factory Witness Tests (FATs), ensuring complex equipment (e.g., switchgear) conforms to all design-build requirements before arriving on site.
- Execution Support: Work closely with foremen, QA/QC teams, and superintendents to troubleshoot issues, interpret schematics, and keep field installation moving.
- Switchgear: strong understanding of various Medium Voltage and Low Voltage switchgear products and their operation.
- Interlocks: Support the field installation and testing of safety mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical interlock systems.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in electrical construction, technical field support, power systems, or equipment commissioning.
- Technical Aptitude: Must possess strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills; able to read and interpret schematics and logic diagrams.
- Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license is NOT required for this role.
- Ideal Background: Previous experience working for or with major power equipment manufacturers (Siemens, Schneider, etc.) is strongly preferred.
- Travel: Ability to accommodate up to 75% travel nationwide to data center and utility project sites.
- Schedule: Full-time salaried position; flexibility required around project schedules.
- Location Preference: Dallas/Fort Worth, TX is the ideal location (central hub for efficient national travel). Candidates located near the following regional offices will also be considered: San Jose, Portland, Gallatin (TN), Sterling (VA), Charlotte, and Austin (TX).
