As a pivotal member of the pre-construction team, the Piping Estimator holds comprehensive responsibility for the accurate financial projection and detailed cost modeling of intricate industrial, heavy commercial, and process piping systems. This role extends beyond simple material quantification to encompass the specialized labor, fabrication, equipment, and subcontractor costs associated with complex piping installations. The primary mission is to prepare and coordinate complete, reliable cost estimates, delivering both high-level conceptual figures and detailed total bid prices, thereby ensuring the company's competitiveness and profitability on large and highly technical projects mandated by client specifications and contract documents.

responsibilities:
- Document Review: Reading and interpreting construction documents, blueprints, safety programs, and scopes of work.
- Quantification (Take-offs): Performing detailed material and labor take-offs using specialized software like Quick-pen (or similar estimating systems).
- Cost Compilation: Obtaining and verifying pricing for materials, and securing bids and scopes from subcontractors.
- Cost Analysis: Preparing a comprehensive cost breakdown (recapitulation) of material, labor, equipment, subcontractor, and other direct costs.
- Risk Mitigation: Developing RFIs (Requests for Information) to resolve inconsistencies and missing information, and creating clarifications and exclusions for the bid.
- Resource Management: Maintaining a database of product information, vendors, and subcontractors, and developing key relationships with them.
The position requires a seasoned professional with a blend of technical and interpersonal skills:
- Experience: 2 -3 years of related experience, emphasizing expertise in estimating techniques and cost control.
- Technical Proficiency: ability to perform take-offs and use estimating software (Quick-pen).
- Communication: Ability to speak effectively before groups (clients/employees) and coordinate with internal teams, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous review of estimates for completeness and accuracy.
Performance will be measured by:
- Accurate bid quotations and thorough estimates
- Minimizing the variance between estimated cost vs. actual cost of the project
- Successfully building key relationships with subcontractors and vendors
- Contributing positively to teambuilding within the department and other business units
