We are seeking an experienced and meticulous Sheet Metal Estimator to join our pre-construction team. This crucial role is responsible for preparing and coordinating accurate, full cost estimates for large and complex sheet metal installation projects, culminating in the complete conceptual and final bid price submitted to the client. The ideal candidate will possess 2-3 years of experience, technical ability to interpret blueprints and specifications, and proficiency in estimating systems like Quickpen for detailed labor and material take-offs. This position requires attention to detail, a focus on cost control, and the ability to build effective relationships with vendors and subcontractors.

responsibilities:
- Reviewing and evaluating RFQs, RFPs and Bid Documents
- Developing RFIs for inconsistencies and missing information in the contract documents
- Ensuring timely completion of estimates
- Reviewing estimates and revisions for completeness and accuracy
- Develop pertinent clarifications and exclusions
- Reviewing construction documents and understanding scope of work to bid
- Executing Quickpen take-offs of construction documents
- Obtaining pricing for materials
- Obtaining bids and verifying scope from subcontractors
- Preparing cost analysis in computer by recapitulating material, labor, equipment, subcontractor and other direct costs incurred for the installation of items
- Making an estimate where predetermined standard(s) are not available
- Informing immediate supervisor of any observed inaccuracies or omissions in quoted item or computer database
- Update computer database labor and materials
- Developing and maintain resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc.
- Attending departmental meetings as required
- Print documents and plans
- Develop relationships with vendors and subcontractors
- Project turnover manuals
- Being a team player
- 2 -3 years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and expertise
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as bid front ends, scopes of work, blueprints, safety programs, QA/QC manuals
- Speak effectively before groups of clients or employees
- Knowledge of Quickpen software (or similar estimating systems) is strongly encouraged
- Experience with estimating techniques and cost control
- Ability to perform detailed labor and material take-offs
- Accurate bid quotations and thorough estimates
- Key relationships built with subcontractors and vendors
- Teambuilding within the department and other business units
