A Controls Engineer is needed for a world leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives in the Tucson, AZ area. This is a Controls Engineer role focused on developing and validating machine-level software requirements for Electric and Autonomous Large Mining Trucks using SIL/HIL simulation and hands-on field testing.

responsibilities:
- Develop machine-level controls requirements and validation strategies for Diesel Electric and Battery Electric Large Mining Trucks (LMT).
- Design control logics for machine efficiency, operational performance, and the integration of diverse technology options.
- Analyze existing production machine control logics and software specifications to determine and document necessary modifications for new programs.
- Conduct Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), and Model-in-the-Loop (MIL) simulations to fine-tune and validate control strategies.
- Create comprehensive system and machine-level validation plans to ensure defect-free functionality across all field environmental conditions.
- Collaborate with technical leads and software coordinators to align control specifications with broader product and technology roadmaps.
- Drive hardware and software commonality across multiple machine platforms while documenting technical tradeoffs and benefits.
- Controls software development and/or testing experience.
- Machine/Vehicle level engineering experience, preferably in machine performance, controls, testing or simulation areas (one or more).
- Familiarity with Mining Trucks operation and the application.
- Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Engineering, Physics, CS or related field.
- Minimum 5-7 years in this capacity is a must.
