A Lead Technical Designer is needed for a multinational corporation that is involved in the design, development, manufacturing, and worldwide marketing and sales of athletic apparel, equipment, accessories, and services in the Beaverton, OR area. This is a role for a master patternmaker and sewing expert who manages the end-to-end garment development process, digital 3D modeling, and studio operations while mentoring teams through technical workshops.

responsibilities:
- Serve as a master patternmaker and sewing expert, executing complex garment construction and fit for studio-supported projects.
- Lead the apparel development process from initial design concept through final production and manufacturing.
- Interpret creative design intent and provide technical solutions for pattern, construction, and material challenges.
- Manage and track project timelines, facilitating review meetings with leadership and cross-functional teams.
- Develop and lead studio-based technical trainings and workshops for the Apparel Maker Space.
- Write detailed product specifications and establish rigorous construction standards and instructions.
- Collaborate with factory vendors to optimize designs for manufacturability and quality.
- Oversee studio operations, including inventory management, asset tracking, and sewing machine maintenance.
- Utilize digital tools including Adobe Illustrator, Optitex, and 3D software like Clo or Browzwear.
- Act as the primary technical liaison between Design, Product Management, and manufacturing partners.
- Expertise in patternmaking, sewing and garment construction.
- strong problem solving, organization and communication skills.
- Experience interpreting design intent, offering alternative solutions, and acting as a technical resource.
- Expert in writing product specs and construction standards instructions.
- Proficient working with factory vendors to ensure and improve manufacturability.
- Ability to manage multiple projects.
- Experience using Adobe Illustrator, CAD Pattern Design software (Optitex) and 3D software (Clo/Browzwear) highly desired.
- Proficiency with MS Office programs.
- Project Lead and liaison for all/majority of studio supported projects.
- Bachelor's degree in apparel design, textile science or related field.
- 10+ years patternmaking or technical design experience in the apparel industry, which includes the apparel development process from inception through production including pattern making, grading, construction materials, costing, manufacturing and quality.
