Chemical Process Engineer opportunity for a contract role approximately 35 minutes North of the Charlotte, NC area. This role will be responsible to drive high-level CAPEX projects, bridging the gap between technical process design and on-site construction management. You will be responsible for executing project scopes, leading multi-discipline reviews, and ensuring all process safety standards are met during short-term project cycles.

responsibilities:
- Project Oversight: Prepare, lead, and execute best-in-class CAPEX projects from initial conception through to final start-up and handover.
- Technical Design: Perform process simulations, hydraulic calculations, and equipment sizing while redlining P&IDs to reflect field changes.
- Construction Management: Review civil, mechanical, and I&E packages to ensure design specifications align with practical field execution and project scopes.
- Safety and Compliance: Lead Process Hazard Analysis (PHA/LOPA) and manage the Management of Change (MOC) process to ensure total operational safety.
- Troubleshooting: Analyze and resolve complex plant operating problems and provide dedicated engineering support during shutdowns and turnarounds.
- Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field, paired with approximately 5 - 7 or more years of chemical industry experience.
- Project Leadership: Project management experience, specifically leading multi-discipline engineering reviews for EPC contractors.
- Technical Expertise: Advanced proficiency in SAP project management modules and the ability to produce detailed Gantt charts with critical path identification.
- Field Knowledge: Demonsrated background in construction management and a thorough understanding of chemical process equipment, piping, and instrumentation.
- Safety Focus: Proven experience leading Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR) and conducting Root Cause Analysis (RCA) within a chemical manufacturing environment.
