An energy technology company is hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer to lead structural analysis and new nuclear plant projects. Remote work. This role requires a senior Mechanical Engineer with a minimum of 8 years in the energy sector and 2 years of leadership experience to lead the design, analysis, and regulatory compliance of nuclear reactor components using 3D modeling (Inventor) and FEA (ANSYS). This is a 12 months contract.

responsibilities:
- Executes mechanical component design for Boiling Water Reactors (BWR) and Small Modular Reactors (SMR).
- Leads the analysis, design, testing, and integration of reactor internal components and plant servicing equipment.
- Performs fundamental engineering hand calculations and 3D modeling to ensure technical accuracy.
- Manages project schedules, resource planning, and cost accountability for assigned tasks.
- Provides technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers within a matrixed team environment.
- Prepares and presents formal design reviews and technical reports to internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborates with sourcing and fabricators to provide technical support during manufacturing and installation.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory agency guidelines and industry standards like ASME and AWS.
- Utilizes Autodesk Inventor and ANSYS FEA to develop and validate complex mechanical designs.
- Identifies and mitigates design-associated risks while prioritizing customer needs and safety.
- Prepares invention disclosures to protect intellectual property and competitive technological advantages.

- Familiarity with Lean.

- Knowledge of Geometric Design & Tolerancing (GD&T) practices.
- Knowledge of the ASME/AWS codes.
- Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor 3D CAD design.
- Proficiency with ANSYS Finite Element Analysis (FEA) analysis.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in energy business (nuclear preferred) or equivalent technical environment.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a program or technical leadership role.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with customers, regulators and suppliers.
