A Metallurgy Failure Analyst is needed for a multinational manufacturing company that produces and distributes trucks, buses and construction equipment, as well as marine and industrial drive systems in the Hagerstown, MD area. This role acts as a forensic materials expert, using advanced microscopy and mechanical testing to identify why metal components fail and providing technical solutions to improve product durability and safety.

responsibilities:
- Investigates the root causes of metal component failures, such as fractures, corrosion, or design flaws.
- Utilizes advanced analytical tools including Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS).
- Conducts microstructural analysis and fractography to determine failure origins like fatigue, creep, or stress corrosion cracking.
- Performs hardness testing, tensile testing, and other destructive or non-destructive validation methods.
- Replicates failure scenarios to validate material performance and behavior under stress.
- Interprets complex data sets and microscopic imagery to identify specific failure modes.
- Authors detailed technical reports documenting findings and evidence-based conclusions.
- Presents technical results and recommendations to engineering, quality, and management stakeholders.
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams to implement corrective actions and improve product reliability.
- Deep understanding of phase transformations, alloy behavior,?fracture mechanics, corrosion, and?high-temperature properties.
- Hands-on proficiency with SEM, EDS, optical microscopy, tensile testing.
- strong analytical mindset, attention to detail, and ability to solve complex material issues.
