A Staff Engineering Technician is needed for a leading global engineering, consulting and construction company in the Overland Park, KS area. This senior engineering technician role requires a minimum of five years of experience and an associate degree or diploma to develop site drainage and grading plans for grid substation projects using advanced Civil 3D and MicroStation expertise.

responsibilities:
- Develop site drainage, grading, and utility plans using Autodesk Civil 3D and Bentley MicroStation.
- Support the Distributed Infrastructure solution by focusing on grid substation design projects.
- Utilize advanced Civil 3D skills to create and manage proposed grading surfaces and technical plan sets.
- Create, modify, and maintain technical documentation and 3D models using BIM and CAD digital tools.
- Apply foundational engineering principles and established design practices to moderately complex concepts.
- Provide technical guidance and direction to other engineering professionals to ensure output consistency.
- Perform detailed design calculations, material quantities, estimates, and project records.
- Review project requirements to determine the correct format and content for all technical deliverables.
- Ensure all deliverables comply with specific industry codes, standards, and company quality programs.
- Coordinate with multi-disciplinary design groups to exchange critical project information.
- Review the work of peers to ensure quality control and adherence to departmental guides.
- Advanced Civil 3D experience is required with use of proposed grading surfaces and plan development, experience with Grid substation projects.
- Civil 3d and grading are required.
- Demonstrates personal accuracy and supports continuous improvement and change management efforts.
- Reviews design inputs in order to ensure consistency.
- Assists to ensure deliverables are in compliance with the specific codes and standards suitable for the project.
- May apply basic engineering principles and established design practices in developing moderately complex design concepts and deliverables.
- Begins to apply judgment and make decisions with respect to deliverables and input interpretation.
- Diploma or Certificate required.
- Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related.
- Typically a minimum of 5 years related work experience.
- Technology preferred.
