A Mechanical Designer is needed for a manufacturing company considered one of the world's leading innovators in materials science in the Hickory, NC area. This is a Senior Mechanical Designer role requiring high proficiency in SolidWorks and machine design to lead product development from concept to manufacturing, including technical simulations and systems integration.

responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of mechanical systems and machinery focused on functionality and cost-effectiveness.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine products from the initial concept through to final production.
- Perform engineering calculations, simulations, and failure analyses to ensure safety and reliability.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including detailed design specifications and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Optimize designs for manufacturing processes to improve production quality and reduce costs.
- Manage multiple design projects simultaneously while meeting strict deadlines and objectives.
- Conduct Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to validate mechanical performance.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks (modeling, assembly, simulations, and technical drawings).
- strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a detail-oriented approach.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Effective communication skills to present ideas, collaborate with team members, and interact with clients or stakeholders.
- Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
- Experience with prototyping and rapid manufacturing techniques.
- Exposure to electrical systems and controls is a plus.
- Microcontrollers & Programming (Optional): Design and integrate control systems using microcontrollers.
- Basic programming knowledge (e.g., Python, C++) is a plus.
- Experience with microcontrollers and programming (preferred but not mandatory).
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in mechanical design and machine design.
