A Packaging Engineer is needed for a manufacturing company considered one of the world's leading innovators in materials science. Remote work. This role designs, tests, and implements sustainable, high-performance packaging solutions for complex technical products while leading global cross-functional projects and managing supplier quality.

responsibilities:
- Designs and develops innovative packaging for glass, ceramics, and optical components using materials like corrugate and recyclable plastics.
- Leads cross-functional projects involving Commercial, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Sustainability teams.
- Builds prototypes and conducts rigorous testing to meet ISTA, ASTM, and ISO standards.
- Implements sustainable materials and practices to reduce environmental impact and meet company goals.
- Optimizes packaging designs to reduce costs, improve quality, and streamline manufacturing processes.
- Sources materials and manages relationships with vendors to ensure quality and supply chain resilience.
- Creates and maintains detailed technical documentation, including CAD drawings and specifications.
- Provides technical support for manufacturing issues and customer quality concerns related to packaging.
- Ensures global compliance with regulatory standards such as FDA, EU, and REACH.
- Proficiency with packaging design software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
- Knowledge of packaging materials (paper, plastics, glass, corrugate, etc.), manufacturing processes, and testing standards.
- Understanding of sustainability trends, recyclable/renewable materials, and regulatory considerations.
- strong project management and organizational skills; able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or related field from an accredited university program is required.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in packaging engineering related roles.
- Additional certifications (i.e., CPP - Certified Packaging Professionals) is desired.
