A Sound Test Engineer is needed for a world leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives in the Mossville, IL area. This role is a hands-on engineering position focused on the setup, execution, and analysis of noise, vibration, and harshness testing in both lab and outdoor environments, requiring a mix of technical data processing, physical machine work, and collaborative project management for candidates with five to seven years of experience.

responsibilities:
- Perform hands-on mechanical and audio system assembly, installation, and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with sound engineers to receive updates on development plans and concept installations.
- Build and alter structures to install sound concepts within testing environments.
- Set up and manage instrumentation such as microphones and accelerometers.
- Run diagnostic tests independently or in coordination with machine operators.
- Participate in planning meetings and teleconferences with design teams to review documentation.
- Partner with electronics and product engineers to review designs and develop comprehensive test plans.
- Execute tests, analyze technical results, and communicate recommendations back to design groups.
- Support senior sound engineers by overseeing test setup and execution for various projects.
- Take ownership of project planning and delivery as technical capabilities are demonstrated.
- Work physically in testing bays and outdoor environments to collect data.
- Adapt work hours flexibly based on the demands of the testing schedule.
- Process and interpret high-frequency data using engineering principles.
- Apply knowledge of mechanical systems and audio concepts like intelligibility metrics.
- Maintain high initiative and strong teamwork within a group of 20 engineers and agency staff.
- Climb machines and use hand tools, wrenches, or carpentry skills to facilitate testing.
- Provide a bachelor's degree in an engineering curriculum that includes dynamics labs in noise, vibration, and harshness.
- Offer 5 to 7 years of relevant experience, which may include internships or roles in acoustics and noise control.
