An Engineering Technician is needed for a manufacturing company considered one of the world's leading innovators in materials science in the Hickory, NC area. This role involves hands-on technical testing and installation of fiber optic components, requiring expertise in fusion splicing, connector cleaning, and data analysis to verify product performance under extreme environmental conditions.

responsibilities:
- Perform fiber fusion splicing and the inspection, cleaning, and installation of optical fiber connectors and cables.
- Set up and verify the performance of fiber optic testing systems and environmental chambers.
- Configure product samples for rigorous mechanical and environmental testing protocols.
- Execute optical measurements using both manual and automated test systems.
- Document precise test results and maintain organized records according to established procedures.
- Process and analyze technical data utilizing computer macros and Microsoft Excel.
- Draft formal test reports and assist in conducting failure mode analysis and basic troubleshooting.
- Identify color-coded fibers and components with high visual accuracy.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and highly organized workspace while tracking project progress.
- Collaborate effectively with team members to meet predefined testing schedules and quality standards.
- Experience in optical fiber- based products: fiber fusion splicing; inspect, clean and install optical fiber connectors, optical fiber cable installation (field installation).
- Data processing and data analysis using computer Macros.
- Be a team player.
