A Reliability Engineer is needed for a multinational pharmaceutical and biotechnology company, whose areas of business include pharmaceuticals, consumer healthcare products, agricultural chemicals, seeds and biotechnology products in the Urbandale, IA area. This role is focused on the maintenance, troubleshooting, and reliability of automated production systems including robotics, PLCs, and industrial controls.

responsibilities:
- Service, maintain, and support complex automation systems in a high-throughput production environment.
- Troubleshoot and repair PLCs, robotics, conveyors, VFDs, sensors, and pneumatic/hydraulic systems.
- Execute and refine preventive (PM) and predictive (PdM) maintenance tasks and procedures.
- Diagnose equipment breakdowns rapidly and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Assist in the commissioning, calibration, and testing of new or upgraded automation technologies.
- Interpret electrical and mechanical schematics, wiring diagrams, and ladder logic.
- Utilize hand tools and electrical test equipment like multimeters and insulation testers safely.
- Document equipment history and manage spare parts within a CMMS (e.g., SAP, Maximo).
- Collect failure data to support reliability analyses such as FMEA and RCM.
- Adhere to rigorous safety protocols including LOTO, PPE, and NFPA 70E standards.
- Basic familiarity with PLC platforms (Allen?Bradley, Siemens, etc.), HMIs, and ladder logic concepts.
- Practical experience or coursework with electrical components, motors, sensors, pneumatics, and mechanical systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) for documentation, reporting, and CMMS exports.
- Comfortable using diagnostic/test equipment and following electrical/mechanical schematics.
- strong troubleshooting instincts, excellent verbal and written communication, and proven problem?solving ability, must be able to collaborate effectively with cross?functional teams.
- Relevant technical experience in industrial maintenance, automation, or controls a degree is not required, equivalent hands?on experience, technical diploma, or military training is acceptable.
