A Mechanical Engineer is needed for a manufacturing company considered one of the world's leading innovators in materials science in the Newton, NC area. This role requires a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and 3 to 6 years of experience in cable manufacturing to lead equipment capability improvements, perform 3D CAD design for tooling upgrades, and optimize high-volume production lines using data analysis and root cause troubleshooting.

Equipment Capability and Performance:
- Own mechanical capability of cable and ribbon assembly equipment.
- Establish and maintain metrics including OEE, Cp/Cpk, uptime, scrap, and yield.
- Lead mechanical capability studies and line balancing.
- Conduct throughput optimization efforts.
- Identify mechanical constraints impacting line speed and tension stability.
- Manage constraints related to concentricity and dimensional control.
- Design, modify, and optimize tooling, fixturing, guides, and rollers.
- Optimize payoff systems and tension control mechanisms.
- Develop detailed 2D drawings and 3D CAD models for equipment upgrades.
- Perform engineering calculations related to tension, torque, and inertia.
- Calculate thermal effects and material deformation.
- Support equipment retrofits and modernization projects.
- Provide hands-on technical support during production, trials, and start-ups.
- Perform structured root cause analysis for mechanical and process issues.
- Implement corrective actions based on analysis findings.
- Collaborate with process, controls, maintenance, and quality teams.
- Resolve chronic equipment issues through cross-functional teamwork.
- Support development and execution of FAT, SAT, and IQ/OQ/PQ.
- Establish line acceptance criteria.
- Define mechanical requirements and performance specifications for new equipment.
- Work directly with OEMs and system integrators on design and build.
- Manage equipment acceptance processes with external vendors.
- Review vendor drawings and layouts for performance and safety compliance.
- Create and maintain mechanical documentation and equipment specifications.
- Maintain PM standards and change records.
- Ensure compliance with safety, ergonomic, and manufacturing standards.
- Support continuous improvement using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Possess a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
- Have 3 to 6 years of experience in cable manufacturing or equipment engineering.
- Demonstrate hands-on experience with ribboning, stranding, extrusion, or shielding.
- Apply experience with jacketing or armoring equipment.
- Show a deep understanding of mechanical systems in continuous manufacturing.
- Maintain proficiency in CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, or AutoCAD.
- Utilize data analysis tools including JMP, Excel, and Minitab.
- Perform equipment capability analysis and production line optimization.
- Apply strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Experience specifically with ribbon cable manufacturing.
- Knowledge of tension control systems and dancer mechanisms.
- Understanding of capstans and servo-driven equipment.
- Familiarity with statistical process control and Cp/Cpk analysis.
- Working knowledge of PLC controlled machinery and electromechanical interfaces.
- Experience leading or supporting high-speed cable line scale-ups.
- Hold a Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification.
