Industry leader located just outside of Charleston is looking for a controls engineer. This is a unique position, where we are looking for someone who has experience with overhead cranes. Looking for someone who has experience programming PLCs from scratch. Salary for this role will be based on experience.

responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair PLC-based Crane & Mobile control systems, including I/O, field devices, sensors, and actuators.
- Diagnose electrical, control, and automation-related equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
- Monitor, adjust, and optimize PLC logic to support production performance.
- Support startup, commissioning, and debugging of new crane automation equipment.
- Maintain and update HMI screens, alarms, and data collection systems.
- Troubleshoot VFDs, motion control systems, and industrial communications (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, etc.)
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on crane automation and electrical systems.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, PLC programs, and mechanical drawings.
- Maintain accurate documentation, backups, and change control for PLC programs and automation systems.
- Must be able to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime, including call-ins.
- Advanced automation development experience
- Knowledge of overhead crane components / operation
- Motor, motor controls, and AC Drive understanding
- Four-year Electrical Engineering degree
- HMI programming experience (Wonderware / WinCC / Factory Talk / Ignition)
- PC and Basic Industrial Networking experience
- PDA analysis
