What you'll do:
- Critically analyze taxpayer data to determine eligibility for abatements, ensuring decisions align with statutes and tax laws.
- Conduct in-depth research, evaluate evidence, and make findings of fact to render fair determinations.
- Educate taxpayers on filing requirements and recommend solutions for compliance issues.
- Prepare comprehensive case files for hearings and represent the Department of Revenue.
- Contribute to developing and documenting efficient recordkeeping and accounting systems.
- 2+ years of professional experience in accounting, finance, tax, or a similar analytical role.
- Proficiency in Google Suite (especially Sheets) and/or Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
- strong analytical, research, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for diverse audiences.
- Understanding of accounting principles and ability to interpret tax laws.
- Some college coursework in Accounting, Business, or a related field is highly valued.
- bilingual abilities (Spanish/English) are a plus!

Responsibilities
Examine and analyze data as presented by the customer applicant for consideration of abatement.
Request clarifying information, evaluate both testimony and evidence to make findings of fact and render decisions in conformance with procedural standards, statutes, and tax laws. Utilize problem solving, critical thinking and decision making skills to conduct analysis of information including financial records and historical data.
On occasion educate taxpayers on filing requirements and recommend solutions to identified nonconformance.
Prepare thorough files based on analyzed decisions for hearings and testify on behalf of the state Department of Revenue.
Develop, implement, modify, and document recordkeeping and accounting systems, making use of current computer technology. Use automated accounting systems and applications to retrieve and review data files, analyze information, and analyze financial records in conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
