- Execute Expert Decisions: Using independent judgment, medically, non-medically, and financially evaluate facultative life reinsurance applications to provide high-quality decisions.
- Identify & Justify Risk: Recognize pertinent risk factors and financial justification to make strong decisions, ensuring appropriate and defensible documentation.
- Provide Value-Added Service: Deliver prompt handling of new facultative business, immediately respond to client telephone and email inquiries, and provide clear explanations for underwriting decisions.
- Maintain Industry Expertise: Keep up with mortality trends, competitor underwriting practices, and client personnel/business practices to inform effective decisions.
- Mentor & Lead: Co-sign cases for team members and demonstrate aptitude for approving greater mortality risk assumptions, showcasing leadership.
- Promote the Brand: Represent and promote the organization through professional conduct, client travel, participation in external reviews/audits, and at industry meetings.
- Experience: 8-10 years of progressive life underwriting experience, including direct life insurance and experience, preferably in the brokerage distribution market.
- Education & Certification: Bachelor’s Degree and an established industry designation (ALMI, FALU, FLMI, AALU, CLU) or clear commitment to continuing professional education.
- Risk Assessment Mastery: strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and demonstrated ability in complex impaired/substandard risk assessment.
- Legal & Market Aptitude: Ability to understand insurance contracts, legal processes, and the various products offered in the US life market.
