Responsibilities
- Accurately enter and submit insurance claims for routine eye exams, specialized ophthalmology consultations, and surgical procedures.
- Utilize ICD-10 and CPT codes specifically for eye care, ensuring correct application of ophthalmic modifiers like -RT, -LT, and -50.
- Monitor surgical global periods to ensure post-operative visits are coded and billed according to Medicare and private insurance guidelines.
- Identify, research, and appeal denied or underpaid claims to maximize practice revenue.
- Process and post payments, adjustments, and patient co-pays to the correct accounts within the billing system.
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and demographic information to prevent claim rejections at the point of submission.
- Communicate professionally with patients regarding billing inquiries, insurance coverage, and outstanding balances.
- Manage the aging report by following up on unpaid claims with insurance carriers and sending patient statements for past-due amounts.
- Reconcile daily financial activities and prepare reports for management to ensure all transactions are accounted for.
- Maintain strict patient confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA regulations regarding medical and financial data.
