Responsibilities

Based on typical operations at Dougherty Manufacturing and current 2026 industry standards, here are 10 simplified tasks for an Accounts Payable Clerk:

• Data Entry: Keying vendor invoices into the accounting system (QuickBooks or ERP) with high accuracy.
  
  
• Three-Way Matching: Comparing the Invoice to the Purchase Order (PO) and the Packing Slip from the shop floor to verify items received.
  
  
• Job Costing: Assigning invoice costs to specific project/job numbers (e.g., coding resin or metal costs to a specific boat build).
  
  
• GL Coding: Labeling expenses with the correct General Ledger codes so they show up correctly on financial reports.
  
  
• Vendor Communication: Answering supplier emails or calls regarding payment status and resolving any billing discrepancies.
  
  
• Payment Processing: Preparing weekly "check runs" and setting up ACH or wire transfers for management approval.
  
  
• Statement Reconciliation: Checking vendor monthly statements against internal records to ensure no bills were missed.
