A well-respected nonprofit healthcare organization in Norfolk is seeking a Billing Specialist to join their team immediately. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with long-term potential for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
The ideal candidate will have experience in medical billing, insurance verification, denial management, and customer service, along with the ability to multitask and support front desk operations as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Process billing transactions, payment posting, and collections
- Verify insurance coverage, referrals, co-pays, and benefits
- Handle claim denials, appeals, and resubmissions
- Maintain accurate billing and financial records
- Assist clients with billing questions via phone and email
- Support front desk operations including answering phones and checking in clients
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and billing regulations
- 3+ years of medical billing or healthcare finance experience preferred
- Experience with denial management required
- Knowledge of CPT codes, diagnosis codes, insurance billing, and collections

- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems and Microsoft Office

Responsibilities
Process and track billing transactions, ensuring timely and accurate collections.
Verify insurance coverage and benefits, addressing any discrepancies or issues.
Review and manage claim denials, resubmissions, and appeals.
Maintain accurate financial records, including payment posting and account reconciliation.
Provide exceptional customer service when assisting clients with billing inquiries.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and company policies.
Perform additional administrative duties as assigned.
