Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Accurate Posting: Process both manual and electronic insurance and patient payments across multiple dates of service, payers, and accounts.
- Reconciliation & Allocation: Break down complex, lump-sum payments and accurately allocate them across various patient accounts; research and resolve unapplied payments.
- Variance Research: Independently investigate payment variances, underpayments, and discrepancies to validate correct contractual applications.
- Denial Management: Resolve complex payment denials and collaborate closely with billers, collectors, and payers to clear outstanding balances.
- Process Improvement: Follow internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) while proactively suggesting workflow and automation improvements.
Experience & Knowledge
- 3–5 years of experience in healthcare payment posting (both manual and electronic environments).
- Deep understanding of payer rules, including Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial insurance, and Workers' Compensation.
- Technical knowledge of EOBs, EFTs, ERAs, COB, and 835 file interpretation.
- Solid grasp of contractual adjustments, proration logic, and secondary/tertiary payment rules.
- Familiarity with basic accounting principles related to the healthcare revenue cycle.
- Prior experience working within Interactant (HCS), WellSky, or similar EMR and payment posting systems
