Responsibilities
- Direct all phases of the estimating process for large-scale steel projects, spanning from material takeoffs to final proposal submissions.
- Formulate and adjust competitive pricing models for fabrication, erection, and specialized rigging scopes.
- Collaborate closely with project managers and field operations to ensure estimated labor hours match real-world execution capabilities.
- Analyze structural drawings and contract specifications to accurately identify scope, potential risks, and exclusions.
- Cultivate and maintain professional relationships with owners, general contractors, and design teams during the preconstruction phase.
- Partner with senior executives to develop margin strategies, allocate overhead, and evaluate project selection.
- Support business development by participating in go/no-go analyses and presenting qualifications to potential clients.
- Execute a seamless handoff of awarded contracts to the operations team, outlining the scope narrative and budget breakdowns.
- At least 10 years of experience in structural steel estimating, with a minimum of 3 years in a lead or senior role.
- Comprehensive knowledge of steel fabrication, erection methods, detailing, and connection design concepts.
- Proven proficiency with standard estimating software (such as Tekla, Bluebeam, HeavyBid, or similar)
- Demonstrated history of estimating diverse project types, including commercial, industrial, and heavy civil construction.
