Duration: 9-Month Contract (Possible Contract-to-Hire based on performance & budget)
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST (No expected overtime)
About the Role Are you an experienced payroll tax professional looking for an exciting hybrid role with a premier organization? We are seeking a highly skilled Tax Reporting Specialist for a 9-month contract-to-hire opportunity in Mayfield Village, OH.
In this dynamic position, you will manage complex multi-state and local payroll tax filings, conduct tax research, mentor team members, and assist with critical corporate projects—including Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A).
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Tax Filing & Reconciliation: File and reconcile complex payroll tax returns including Federal, State, Local, SUI (State Unemployment Insurance), and FUTA (Federal Unemployment Tax Act).
- Year-End Operations: Actively participate in the annual W-2 processing and reconciliation cycle.
- Research & Compliance: Research payroll tax regulation changes, analyze system issues, assess impacts to the business, and provide strategic recommendations.
- Process Improvement: Identify efficiency gaps, recommend updated procedures to management, and lead implementation of approved changes.
- Mentorship & Collaboration: Train and mentor team members, supporting internal business units with high-level customer service.
- Experience Requirement:
- High School Diploma/GED + minimum 4 years of multi-state/local tax experience AND 1 year of customer service experience, OR
- Associate Degree or higher (Accounting, Finance, or Business Management) + minimum 4 years of multi-state/local tax experience AND 1 year of customer service experience.
- Must have at least 5 years of hands-on experience directly filing and paying Federal, State, SUI, Local, and FUTA payroll taxes.
- High School Diploma/GED + minimum 4 years of multi-state/local tax experience AND 1 year of customer service experience, OR

Responsibilities
• Files and reconciles the most complex payroll tax returns: Federal, State, SUI-State Unemployment Insurance , Local and FUTA (Federal Unemployment Tax Act)
• Must have 5yrs exp paying and filing these items
• Researches payroll/tax system issues and provides recommendations to manager.
• Training and mentoring co-workers
• Will be involved with W-2 process
• Recommends process improvements/procedures to manager and leads the implementation of approved process changes.
• Researches and review payroll tax regulation changes for impact to Progressive.
