As a Process Technician at an injection molding company, your primary responsibilities revolve around ensuring the plastic injection molding machines operate efficiently, produce high-quality parts, and meet production goals. While the exact job description can vary slightly, your core duties typically include:
- Setup and Startup:
- Performing mold changes and setting up the injection molding machines for production runs.
- Setting and controlling all process parameters (temperature, pressure, injection speed, cooling time, etc.) to establish a stable and efficient molding process.
- Starting up machines and auxiliary equipment (like thermolators, grinders, and material handlers).
- Monitoring the machines and processes to detect potential issues.
- Troubleshooting and correcting process problems that cause part defects (like flash, short shots, warpage, etc.).
- Making adjustments to process variables to optimize cycle times and improve overall efficiency while maintaining quality.
- Inspecting and measuring parts using tools like calipers and micrometers to ensure they meet quality and customer specifications.
- Stopping production when quality issues arise and making necessary corrections.
- Performing routine preventative maintenance on machines and tooling.
- Documenting all process settings, changes, and troubleshooting actions.
- Maintaining a clean and safe work environment (adhering to 5S principles and safety regulations).
- Assisting in the training and coaching of machine operators on proper procedures.
- Communicating with supervisors, engineers, and maintenance staff regarding equipment issues or new tooling.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as an Injection Molding Process Technician or in a similar type of position within the plastics industry.
- Proficient in setting up and processing various thermoplastic materials.
- strong mechanical aptitude and excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Proficient in the use of precision measuring instruments.
- Basic computer skills for data entry and monitoring systems.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality standards.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision and be a self-starter.
