Responsibilities
The AOI Operator operates automated optical inspection (AOI) equipment to inspect surface-mount printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) for proper component placement, polarity, and solder joint quality. In this role, the operator loads programs, runs inspections, and adjudicates machine-flagged indications to distinguish true defects from false calls against IPC-A-610 standards. Confirmed defects are routed for rework, and recurring defect trends are communicated to SMT and Quality teams to support ongoing process improvements. Qualified candidates need a high school diploma or GED equivalent, alongside at least one year of AOI operation or electronics inspection experience in a manufacturing setting. Basic computer skills, strong close-vision acuity, and the ability to interpret assembly drawings and BOMs are essential. Additionally, candidates with hands-on experience on specific AOI platforms, current IPC-A-610 certifications, or background in high-reliability PCBA environments are preferred.
