A leading manufacturing company is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Specialist to support the implementation and maintenance of Safe Quality Foods (SQF) and Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) initiatives. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate documentation, supporting system changes, ensuring inspection readiness, and providing general facility support. The Specialist will also serve as a backup for the VP of Food Safety for all SQF and FSMA-related activities.

responsibilities:
- Ensure the facility remains compliant with current SQF Code requirements by managing SOPs, policies, and food safety protocols.
- Oversee execution and compliance of Food Safety Plans, including CCPs and Preventative Controls under FSMA and SQF programs.
- Support daily operations related to vendor and material documentation, including supplier scorecards and compliance tracking.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders such as QC, R&D, Regulatory, Production, Supply Chain, vendors, customers, and regulatory bodies.
- Manage document control systems for SQF, FSMA, and prerequisite programs, including triggering annual reviews and updating critical documentation.
- Conduct and document internal audits to identify and address QA/food safety issues.
- Maintain records for vendor and internal nonconformances, including tracking and closing CAPAs (Corrective and Preventive Actions).
- Support mock recalls and traceability exercises.
- Assist in the validation of procedures for Food Defense, Food Fraud, and the Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP).
- Ensure allergen program compliance to mitigate cross-contact risks.
- Identify process gaps and partner with teams to implement documentation and procedural improvements.
- Maintain up-to-date binders, logbooks, and digital repositories.
- Manage Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and non-conforming equipment CAPAs.
- Participate in internal, external, and third-party audits and support post-audit follow-up.
- Recommend improvements that enhance food safety systems, reduce cost, and elevate customer satisfaction.

Qualifications:
- 2-3 years of experience as a certified SQF Practitioner.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- Proficient in document control and writing technical documentation in a regulated manufacturing environment.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), including the use of pivot tables for data analysis.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities to interact effectively with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Proven track record of following procedures, resolving ambiguity, and working under minimal supervision.
