We're looking for a Senior Dynatrace Monitoring Specialist to join our IT team. This role is all about building and managing cutting-edge monitoring solutions for our on-premises infrastructure, network devices, applications, and cloud services.
This isn't just a Dynatrace monitoring role; it's a unique opportunity for a proactive Dynatrace evangelist to directly shape our organization's entire observability strategy. You'll move beyond basic monitoring to identify and implement cutting-edge Dynatrace applications across the business, driving real value and influencing technical direction. If you're a "go-getter" who thrives on optimizing systems and exploring new possibilities with Dynatrace, this is your chance to lead and truly make an impact.
location: Atlanta, Georgia
job type: Contract
work hours: 8am to 5pm
education: Bachelors
responsibilities:
As a Senior Dynatrace Monitoring Specialist, you will be responsible for routine checks to strategic initiatives:
- Review Dynatrace Dashboards & Alerts: Start the day by meticulously examining key performance dashboards for critical applications and infrastructure. Triage and investigate any new alerts or problem notifications generated by Dynatrace's AI, prioritizing issues based on business impact. This includes checking the health of the Dynatrace environment itself.
- Participate in Team Stand-ups & Incident Reviews: Join daily meetings with development, operations, and SRE teams. Provide actionable insights from Dynatrace data on recent performance trends, ongoing incidents, or potential issues. You'll contribute your monitoring expertise to collaborative troubleshooting efforts, often drilling down into code-level traces or service flows within Dynatrace to pinpoint root causes.
- Deep-Dive Performance Analysis: Actively analyze performance metrics, logs, and traces to identify anomalies, bottlenecks, and root causes of application or infrastructure issues. This often involves using Dynatrace's advanced analytical capabilities to understand complex interdependencies.
- Optimize Dynatrace Configurations: Continuously refine existing Dynatrace setups by adjusting alert thresholds, fine-tuning custom metrics, and enhancing dashboard visualizations to provide clearer and more actionable insights. This also involves exploring and implementing new Dynatrace features as they become available to maximize platform efficiency.
- Onboard New Applications/Services: Work directly with development teams to design and implement comprehensive monitoring strategies for new applications, services, or features being deployed. This includes configuring Real User Monitoring (RUM), Synthetic Monitoring, setting up custom metrics, and defining key transactions within Dynatrace.
- Develop Custom Monitoring Solutions: Create and implement custom dashboards, alerts, and reports tailored to specific team needs or business requirements, ensuring stakeholders receive relevant and timely performance data.
- Proactive Issue Identification: Leverage Dynatrace's capabilities to proactively identify potential performance degradation or availability issues before they impact end-users. This involves analyzing trends and anticipating problems rather than just reacting to them.
- Collaborate on SLO/SLI Definition: Work with relevant teams (development, product, business) to define and refine meaningful Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and Service Level Indicators (SLIs) that can be effectively measured and monitored using Dynatrace.
- Integrate Dynatrace with Other Tools: Explore and implement integrations between Dynatrace and other IT tools, such as ITSM platforms (e.g., ServiceNow) for automated incident creation, or CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins) to incorporate performance testing gates.
- Research & Evangelize New Use Cases: Dedicate time to researching potential new ways to leverage Dynatrace across the organization, beyond traditional APM. This could involve exploring its capabilities for business analytics, security monitoring, or capacity planning, and then evangelizing these new use cases to relevant stakeholders.
- Mentor & Train Peers: Provide guidance and training to junior team members or other IT staff on Dynatrace best practices, effective dashboard usage, and troubleshooting techniques, fostering a deeper understanding of observability across the organization.
- Update Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation for Dynatrace configurations, monitoring strategies, and operational procedures, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information is readily available.
qualifications:
To be considered for this pivotal role, candidates should possess the following qualifications:
- Extensive Dynatrace Experience: A minimum of 5+ years of dedicated, hands-on experience in administering, optimizing, and leading Dynatrace initiatives. This includes deep expertise across Dynatrace OneAgent deployment, configuration, and advanced troubleshooting.
- Comprehensive Dynatrace Platform Knowledge: Proven proficiency with all core Dynatrace components, including Real User Monitoring (RUM), Synthetic Monitoring, Infrastructure Monitoring, Application Performance Monitoring (APM), Log Management, and AIOps (Davis).
- Application and Infrastructure Expertise: Strong background in monitoring complex architectures (e.g., Java, .NET, Node.js, Microservices) and various database technologies (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB). Solid understanding of monitoring within cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Advanced Analytical Skills: Demonstrated ability to perform root cause analysis (RCA) for intricate, distributed system issues, leveraging performance metrics, logs, and traces.
- Professional Certifications (Preferred): Current Dynatrace certifications are highly desirable, such as Dynatrace Platform Associate, Platform Advanced Observability Specialist, or Professional.
- Relevant Industry Experience: Typically, 5+ years of extensive experience in IT operations, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or application performance monitoring is expected, with a significant portion focused specifically on Dynatrace.
