Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst Job Description
Job Summary
We're looking for a skilled and proactive Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst to join our team. In this role, you'll be the bridge between technical data and business strategy, helping management improve collaboration and make smarter decisions. This is an on-site contract position at the USAA campus. The ideal candidate will be a creative thinker with strong leadership skills and a proven ability to translate complex data into actionable insights for a diverse, global, and consumer-oriented workforce.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Analysis & Modeling: Provide application analysis and data modeling design to support our centralized data warehouse.
- Data Extraction & Reporting: Extract data from various databases and data warehouses to generate reports and facilitate data sharing across multiple systems.
- User Acceptance Testing: Conduct user acceptance testing (UAT) for new data assets, ensuring they accurately meet requirements by comparing them against source assets.
- Insight Delivery: Deliver actionable insights to the business by analyzing billing and channel data sets.
- Process Improvement: Standardize data collection methods by developing robust database designs and validation reports.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-departmental managers and lead meetings to discuss organizational data and future business direction.
- Training & Mentorship: Lead seminars and training sessions for new managers on various aspects of business intelligence.
This is a contract position with a focus on specific, hands-on skills. The top three skills are listed in order of importance, along with the required years of experience:
- SQL: 1-2 years of hands-on experience in writing SQL queries.
- Excel: 1-2 years of proficiency with advanced Excel functions and analysis.
- Analytics & Critical Thinking: 1-2 years of experience in applying critical thinking to analyze data and solve business problems.
The candidate must have knowledge and experience using the following tools on a daily basis:
- SQL: Used for writing queries to test new data assets, compare data layers, extract insights, and develop datasets for visualizations.
- Databases: Experience working with and extracting data from various database systems.
- VSCode & Git: Daily use of VSCode for writing SQL and utilizing Git for code repository interactions.
- We are seeking a candidate with business-facing analytics experience. This means you should be able to gather requirements from non-technical stakeholders and translate them into a technical analytical plan.
- The role requires familiarity with designing analytical plans, breaking down large projects into manageable pieces, and conducting thorough testing of data logic.
- No computer equipment will be provided; the worker must be able to use a USAA-issued device.
- This is a contract position, not a contract-to-hire.
