job summary:
Operational Technology (OT) Network Engineer to provide technical infrastructure support for the utility, including the Energy Management System (EMS) and its supporting technologies, the distributed network and computing resources at power plants and substations, and the physical security network and network resources across all utility locations.
In this role, the OT Network Engineer will apply sophisticated knowledge and experience with networking, switching, firewall configuration, data communications, cyber security and NERC Critical Infrastructure, protect (CIP) standards to develop, operate and maintain the highly available 24x7 OT infrastructure. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are essential.
Location: This client is located in the Seattle, WA area. The candidate must be local and able to be onsite 2 weeks per month.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain quality network support processes and design standards for:
o High availability, redundancy, and operational continuity and configuration management
o NERC compliance, cyber security protection, and intrusion detection
- Collaborate with customers and vendors to:
o Design network solutions that meet business and regulatory requirements
o Serve as a central point of contact for network concerns
o Maintain lifecycle management, system performance metrics and reports
o Ensure compliance with regulatory standards
- Develop and support system changes that include:
o OT infrastructure, operating system, and application patches and upgrades
o Configure, test and deploy network equipment, hardware, software.
o System interfaces, performance and reports with vendor supported software
- Operations & Maintenance
o Monitor, diagnose, resolve, and report incidents and user issues
o Coordinate with colleagues and customers on deliverables
o Attend weekly team meetings to discuss status
o Provide recurring onsite support for field systems
o Administer network routes to enable communication between sites
- Maintain asset databases and design drawings all systems
- Design, deploy, configure, and lead network systems tasks and integrate vendor products, including:
Network switches, network firewalls, physical security and access control systems, and intrusion protection and detection systems in both IT and OT environments, including Cisco Systems switches, Palo Alto Networks firewalls, and various Fortinet network systems
· Tripwire, SolarWinds, Dell EMC Avamar/BRM, Rsyslog.
· IBM Security QRadar SIEM, Cybereason, Tenable / Nessus
Assessing current network design and making recommendations for changes to improve operational reliability and cyber security
Required Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field with 5+ years of experience in network engineering roles
- Experience with Cisco, Fortenet, Palo Alto or other similar network devices.
- Knowledge of Firewall rule best practices.
- Strong understanding of network design concepts and best practices.
- Experience creating complete design drawings and as-built drawings for networks.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
