We are seeking an experienced FinOps professional to drive financial rigor and cost optimization across our hybrid cloud environment, with a primary focus on AWS. This role is critical in transforming cloud usage data into actionable financial insights and measurable savings across our Engineering and Finance teams. You will own the full FinOps lifecycle: data pipelines, allocation, forecasting, commitment strategy, and optimization at scale.

responsibilities:
FinOps Data Ownership: Build and govern cloud usage data pipelines (e.g., CUR/FOCUS-aligned datasets) to achieve high allocation accuracy (target 95-99%) and tagging coverage. Leverage SQL, scripting (Python preferred), and data orchestration tools (Glue, Lambda).
Cost Accountability & Reporting: Establish and refine showback/chargeback models, publishing monthly reports and driving accountability via budget vs. actuals and unit-economics KPIs. Develop insightful dashboards (Power BI/QuickSight/Looker) to empower engineering teams to manage their spend.
Forecasting & Planning: Deliver driver-based financial forecasts, scenario models for roadmap changes, and detailed monthly variance analysis for executive and finance leadership.
Optimization at Scale: Identify, prioritize, and drive technical optimization opportunities (rightsizing, scheduling, storage tiering, container compute) through automation and playbooks. Partner with platform engineering to embed FinOps best practices into deployment patterns.
Commitment Strategy: Lead the strategy, planning, and execution of cloud commitment purchases (e.g., Reserved Instances, Savings Plans) to meet target coverage and utilization metrics.
Governance & Program Leadership: Define and enforce tagging standards, budgets, and alerts. Drive corrective action and mature the overall FinOps program aligned with the FinOps Framework, including defining program KPIs and participating in agile ceremonies.
Anomaly Response: Implement spend monitoring, triage spikes, and conduct incident reviews to prevent recurring anomalous spend.

Qualifications
Experience: 5-8+ years in FinOps, Cloud Financial Management, FP&A, or Platform Engineering roles.
AWS Expertise: 3+ years of hands-on experience working with AWS architectures and analyzing cost/billing data.
Technical Proficiency: Strong expertise in SQL and at least one scripting language (Python preferred). Experience with BI tools (Power BI, QuickSight, Looker) and data orchestration.
Scale & Strategy: Demonstrated success delivering FinOps results for large-scale cloud spend ($50M+ annual spend) and a proven track record of owning a commitment strategy.
Tooling: Experience with at least one FinOps/TBM platform (e.g., CloudZero, Apptio, CloudHealth, Harness, Flexera).
Certifications: FinOps Certified Practitioner/Professional, or AWS Cloud Practitioner/Solutions Architect (or equivalent experience).
Highly Desired Experience
Exposure to Azure/GCP billing data and/or SaaS cost optimization.
Experience with TBM/Apptio or policy-as-code tools (e.g., Cloud Custodian).
Accounting/finance background (accruals, SOX compliance).
Location Note: Candidates ideally located in the Chicago or Houston area.
