-Manage a team of 5 person team (Back End Developer, Front End Developer, Full Stack Developer, QA) who's exciting role is to develop new products from prototype to full blown products. This team functions is a green field environment where innovation is the key factors of success.
-Manages and leads the engineering team in the new Innovation Department in designing and building consumer facing products related to education and finance.
-Performs research, analysis, design, creating and implementation of new products to meet current and future user requirements.
-Leads in the creation of new systems/technologies.
Current Tech Stack:
-Ruby on Rails
-React on the front end
KEY: It is OK for this manager to be tech agnostic as a key role for this manager to fulfill is to evaluate the current tech stack and other tech stacks to determine the best choice to use. This manager needs to be technical enough in order to know which questions to ask while comparing tech stacks such as their current stack vs MEAN stack vs Python/Django stack etc...
-Serves as senior software architect for Innovation projects (an architect background would be helpful but this requirement has soften as this manager will be supported by Senior Architects)
-Collaborates with UX design lead to develop new products and pilots
-Manages work-flow for developers on Innovation projects
-Manages and mentors junior developers on skill development
-Collaborates with IT to plan for long-term support of successful Innovation initiatives
-Builds detailed technical design specifications from business requirements for translation into structured application programs or package modifications with necessary interfaces into other systems
-Performs manager responsibilities for the team to include hire, fire, coach, performance management
-Bachelor's Degree in a related field preferred
-At least 2 years experience in managing a team or equivalent experience leading a team
-4+ years progressive experience in software architecture
-1+ years of experience leading web application development in a small to midsized technology company
-Ability to manage conflicting priorities and handle multiple tasks/projects concurrently
-Ability to effectively organize, plan, control and prioritize work/projects.
-Ability to regularly communicate progress to appropriate stake holders.
-Efficiently manages resources and understands work/project scope, key players, urgency, inherent risks and business benefits.
-Displays and promotes high standards of ethical conduct and behaviors consistent with organizational and government standards
