job summary: An Electrical Engineering Technician is needed for a company that manufactures products for locomotives, freight cars and passenger transit vehicles, and builds new locomotives up to 4,000 horsepower in the Buffalo Grove, IL area. This position will troubleshoot electronic PCB assemblies down to the individual component / semi-conductor / trace level when required, using typical or advanced tooling as well as techniques like signal probing, node analysis, etc. location: Buffalo Grove, Illinois job type: Contract salary: $32.60 - 42.60 per hour work hours: 8am to 5pm education: Associates responsibilities: Interpret electrical & electronic schematics and harness drawings to analyze, measure, troubleshoot, or rework a variety of electrical and electronic systems.Apply a methodical approach to the root cause investigation of electronic parts, sub-assemblies, and electronic systems.Identify issues with electrical designs and work with engineering team to resolve deficiencies.Troubleshoot returned electronic controllers and electrical systems from end customers and determine final disposition to scrap, re-work, or reuse.Troubleshoot electronic PCB assemblies down to the individual component / semi-conductor / trace level when required, using typical or advanced tooling as well as techniques like signal probing, node analysis, etc.Perform PCB board level rework when required, using typical tools for PCB assembly repair.Perform harness level rework when required, e.g., crimping wires, modifying wire lengths, replacing connectors or wire terminals.Setup and operate test equipment and test fixtures used for prototype/type testing and/or production testing when required. Skills: Relevant IPC and/or solder training certification is preferred.Experience with with IPC standards regarding the acceptability of printed circuit boards IPC-A-600 for CLASS 2 systems.Experience with IPC standards regarding requirements and acceptance for cable and wire harness assemblies IPC-A-620.Experience with automotive applications of electrical and electronics assemblies including typical considerations for an automotive environment including electrical and non-electrical environmental factors (typical power/voltage levels, sources of interference and guidelines for preventing issues.
