- A Scientist I in Quality Control Microbiology is responsible for an intermediate level of expertise of microbiological test methods and instrumentation. A Scientist I participates in the mentoring and training of less experienced analysts in the group. The QC Microbiology department contains five main functional groups, and principal activities vary slightly between them.

responsibilities:
- All Scientist I functional groups are responsible for the following core activities:
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure compliance with company documents, programs, and activities related to Health, Safety, Environment, Energy, and Quality Management Systems. Maintain current training compliance through Kabilift.
- Data Review: Perform peer review of laboratory data for accuracy, completeness, and conformance to specifications.
- Communication: Keep supervisory personnel informed of all relevant events impacting department operations and performance, including discrepancies and out-of-limit (OOL) conditions. Articulate work-related issues clearly and effectively to management and peers.
- Standards & Regulations: Maintain a solid working knowledge of cGMPs, GLPs, and current compendial methods.
- Investigations: Assist in authoring basic investigative studies (OOS, OOT, OOL, invalid tests) and update SOPs or Methods of Analysis to remain current. Investigate deviations from SOP requirements to derive root causes.
- Training & Support: Teach or coordinate the training of modules and laboratory techniques to new analysts. Support senior personnel on special testing, investigations, and process validations.
- Laboratory Maintenance: Maintain equipment and manage calibrations not performed by metrology or maintenance departments.
qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor of Science degree in a biological science.
- Experience: Minimum of 1 to 3 years of progressive laboratory experience. Previous experience with microbial identification using the MALDI system is preferred for the ID Lab.
- Skills: Strong planning, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills are essential.
