responsibilities:
- High-Complexity Testing: Perform specimen handling, processing, and high-complexity analyses utilizing approved technical procedures and department Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Data Management: Review, verify, and release accurate patient test results; adapt smoothly to multiple laboratory information systems and maintain complete on-site testing records.
- Quality Assurance & Compliance: Adhere strictly to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and internal QA/QC policies. Document all quality control activities, calibrations, and instrument maintenance.
- Troubleshooting & Corrective Action: Identify system or specimen deviations that may affect test performance; implement and document corrective actions or immediately escalate critical issues to senior technologists.
- Critical Reporting: Follow established department protocols for reporting STAT or Critical test results directly to healthcare clients.
- Inventory & Maintenance: Monitor reagents and test kits to ensure proper documentation of received, opened, and expiration dates; maintain a clean, organized, and inspection-ready laboratory space.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Interact professionally with other departments, assist with customer or internal inquiries, and participate in regulatory agency inspections as needed.
qualifications:
Required
- Education: Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) in Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biology; OR an Associate's degree in Laboratory Science/Medical Technology; OR previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493.1433. (US graduates must provide original transcripts; foreign-educated candidates must provide an IERF credential evaluation).
- Certification/Licensure: National certification (or immediate eligibility) as an MT, MLS, or MLT from a recognized organization (ASCP or AMT). Must hold required state licensure if applicable.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year of clinical laboratory experience performing high-complexity testing (Required for BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology).
- Technical Skills: Solid understanding of basic laboratory testing protocols, QA/QC mechanisms, and proficient multitasking abilities across multiple computer data systems.
- Compliance Ready: Must be eligible and able to clear Corewell credentialing requirements.
- Specialized Experience: 1 year of clinical experience in high-complexity testing is strongly preferred for all candidates.
- Technical Expertise: Hands-on experience with Toxicology testing and/or Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS) instrumentation.
- Soft Skills: Strong customer service skills for direct client communication and a proven ability to successfully prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
