A Controls Engineer is needed for a manufacturing company considered one of the world's leading innovators in materials science in the Wilmington, NC area. This role supports and enhances computer-controlled manufacturing systems for optical fiber production and strong programming, troubleshooting, and process optimization skills in a 24/7 production environment.

responsibilities:
- Support engineers by troubleshooting and maintaining automated control systems in a 24/7 production environment.
- Work closely with technicians, production associates, and engineers to ensure stable and reliable equipment operation.
- Contribute to process and product optimization and improvement initiatives.
- Train engineers and/or production associates on new equipment, processes, or control systems.
- Participate in capital projects as needed.
- Provide after-hours or on-call technical support as required.
Desired Skills:
- Experience integrating computers with manufacturing processes to improve efficiency and reduce cost.
- Familiarity with MS Windows, iFIX, EthernetIP I/O, Microsoft Office, SCADA, Twincat, and real-time control systems.
- Experience with motion systems and low voltage electrical circuit troubleshooting.
- strong problem-solving, debugging, and cross-functional communication skills.
- Experience in production support in manufacturing environments.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years in a technical or relevant engineering role.
