A Mechanical Designer is needed for a manufacturing company considered one of the world's leading innovators in materials science in the Durham, NC area. This role designs and develops mechanical systems and components using SolidWorks, performing technical analysis, collaborating across teams, and supporting manufacturing from concept to production.

responsibilities:
- Lead mechanical system, component, and equipment design with focus on function, durability, and cost.
- Create 3D models, detailed drawings, and assemblies using SolidWorks.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the product lifecycle (concept to production).
- Conduct engineering calculations, simulations, and failure analyses to ensure performance and safety.
- Maintain comprehensive technical documentation (design specs, BOMs, assembly instructions).
- Support manufacturing teams to optimize designs for production, cost-efficiency, and quality.
- Manage multiple design projects, ensuring timely delivery and goal alignment.
- Advanced skills in SolidWorks, including simulation and drafting.
- strong grasp of mechanical engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and detail-oriented skills.
- Capable of working independently and in teams within fast-paced environments.
- strong communication skills for team and stakeholder interaction.
- Familiarity with FEA and CFD tools.
- Knowledge of industry standards and prototyping techniques.
- Exposure to electrical systems, controls, and microcontroller programming (Python, C++ is a plus).
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related.
- 4+ years' experience in mechanical and machine design.
