A R&D Services Engineer is needed for a leader in power and automation technologies in the Bloomfield, CT area. This job supports the design, development, testing, and manufacturing implementation of retrofitted electrical products-such as circuit breakers and switchgear-by applying mechanical/electrical engineering expertise within a collaborative, Agile R&D environment.

responsibilities:
- Assist with design, development, and manufacturing implementation of engineering programs
- Plan and report technical design, scheduling, and testing under senior engineering guidance
- Create and analyze product designs for function, cost, reliability, manufacturability, and safety
- Ensure design compliance using Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) and Design for Reliability (DFR)
- Maintain accurate technical documentation: drawings, BOMs, cost estimates, risk analyses, etc.
- Use 3D CAD tools (PTC Creo/Windchill) to model and document designs
- Incorporate design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles
- Develop and execute test plans, prototypes, and root cause analyses
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- 2+ years of engineering experience
- Proficient in 3D CAD, modeling, and creating Bills of Materials
- Familiarity with mechanical design: mechanisms, thermal and structural performance
- Hands-on experience with assembly, testing, and troubleshooting
- strong data analysis and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Mechanical design experience related to electrical components/equipment
- Knowledge of certification standards (UL, IEC, ANSI/IEEE)
- Familiarity with automated BOM generation
- Proven track record in engineering analysis and design execution
- Experience with thermal, stress, structural, and short circuit analysis
- Proficient in Creo for modeling and mechanism design
- LEAN/Six Sigma Green Belt certification preferred
- Background in circuit breakers, switchgear, power panels, or electro-mechanical testing
- Demonstrates ownership, initiative, and ability to work independently and in teams
- Highly motivated, adaptable, and capable of managing multiple tasks under time constraints
