A Packaging Engineer is needed for an American multinational healthcare company that primarily focuses on products to treat kidney disease, and other chronic and acute medical conditions, in the Round Lake, IL area. This role requires a Bachelor's degree in Packaging or Engineering and at least 5 years of experience, utilizing expertise in packaging materials, processes, statistical methods, and project management to lead and support packaging initiatives in a pharmaceutical R&D environment focused on quality, compliance, cost savings, and new product development.

responsibilities:
- Lead or support packaging projects across areas like: Quality / CAPA, Regulatory compliance, Supplier change notices, Cost-saving initiatives & New product introductions (NPIs)
- Manage moderately complex projects independently or support larger programs
- Develop and execute test protocols and manage change control activities
- Approve new packaging materials and recommend improvements to current systems
- Create and update packaging material specs, drawings, and procedural documents
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and manufacturing plants (domestic and international)
- Travel as needed to plants and packaging suppliers
- Generate cost-saving ideas through material/design optimization
- Use problem-solving techniques like DMAIC for issue resolution
- Support financial planning and perform cost justification for projects

- Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering or relevant field (Mechanical, Chemical, Biomedical Engineering)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in packaging engineering
- Proficient in: Packaging materials and processes, Statistical methods and Design of Experiments (DOE), Problem analysis and resolution & Change control and development processes
- Proven project management ability with a strong sense of urgency
- strong cross-functional collaboration experience
- Effective communicator and problem-solver in ambiguous situations
- Familiarity with Lean Principles and continuous improvement practices
- Ability to present technical and project summaries with minimal support
- Preferred: Experience in the medical or healthcare industry
