A Principal Engineer is needed for an American multinational healthcare company that primarily focuses on products to treat kidney disease, and other chronic and acute medical conditions, in the Round Lake, IL area. This contract position requires a Packaging Engineer with a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and a minimum of 5 years of experience, to apply skills in packaging design, project management, and quality control to sustain and develop new pharmaceutical product packaging while collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance and cost efficiency.

responsibilities:
- Perform sustaining engineering activities on existing product packaging and processes, focusing on quality, compliance, supply continuity, and cost savings.
- Act as a team member for new product development, providing design, development, and verification testing for new packaging, and assisting with manufacturing plant qualifications.
- Apply a solid understanding of packaging theories and practices, with exposure to various materials and processes (flexible/rigid films, HDPE, foil pouches, corrugated design, thermoforming, flow-wrap, etc.).
- Lead and/or contribute to the planning and execution of packaging projects, including those for quality/CAPA, regulatory compliance, supplier changes, cost savings, and new product introductions.
- Manage multiple projects of moderate complexity with minimal supervision.
- Develop testing protocols, create packaging material specifications, drawings, and procedural specifications.
- Work with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing plants and suppliers, to execute changes and achieve project objectives.
- Utilize critical thinking and DMAIC techniques to resolve complex packaging issues, generate cost-saving ideas, and embrace Lean principles for continuous improvement.
- Must have proficiency in packaging materials and processes, problem analysis and resolution, statistical methods, and design of experiments.
- Experience with change control, cross-functional teamwork, creative problem-solving, and managing projects with a sense of urgency is essential.
- B.S. in Packaging or relevant Engineering degree (e.g. Mechanical, Chemical, Biomedical).
- With a minimum of 5 years of experience.
