A Controls Engineer is needed for a world leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives in the Alpharetta, GA area. This controls engineer role requires experience in electrical design and switchgear, with proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical or E-Plan, to design, develop, and maintain control systems while providing technical support and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

responsibilities:
- Design, develop, install, and maintain equipment for monitoring and controlling engineering systems.
- Create and follow electrical design schedules.
- Test, evaluate, modify, and calibrate products.
- Analyze and improve plant processes.
- Troubleshoot hardware and process issues.
- Perform technical calculations for electrical requirements and motor controls, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
- Provide submittal packages to customers for switchgear.
- Offer technical support to the Sales team.
- Provide project historical information to the Engineering team.
- Experience with AutoCAD Electrical or E-Plan.
- Ability to read electrical drawings.
- Experience working with switchgear.
- Interpret customer specifications.
- Create detailed designs.
- Experience with low and medium voltage switchgear design.
- Research new parts and read manuals.
- Detailed understanding of protective relays.
- Basic understanding of PLC/SCADA networks.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (EE) or Electrical Technology, or a similar degree with demonstrated switchgear design experience.
- 8-10 years of experience, with a minimum of 8 years.
- Candidates without a Bachelor's may be considered with 10+ years of switchgear and PLC experience.
- Relevant Master's degrees are considered with at least 5 years of experience.
