A Controls Engineer for a medical devices and equipment manufacturing company is needed in the Portage, MI area. This role is for an experienced electrical and controls engineer who will provide technical support, troubleshoot complex manufacturing equipment, and execute automation projects within a medical plant, with a strong focus on PLC programming, industrial automation, and documentation.

responsibilities:
- Provide technical support and coverage for electrical, control, and PLC subsystems on equipment within a medical manufacturing plant.
- Troubleshoot complex manual, semi-automated, and automated manufacturing equipment.
- Execute small to medium manufacturing projects, including machine automation, PLC control, equipment capacity, part transfers, and cost reduction projects.
- Support equipment purchases, ensuring they meet established electrical and control system standards.
- Work directly with vendors on tooling and process improvements.
- Mentor other process specialists, engineers, and technicians.
- Partner with maintenance, engineering, and the tool room to resolve equipment and process issues.
- Program various pieces of numerical code and/or PLC-controlled fabrication, assembly, and finishing equipment.
- Assist in validation activities, including periodic reviews, equipment qualifications, and process validations.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical or Computer Engineering preferred).
Experience: 6+ years of related experience in manufacturing controls, software, programming, or electrical engineering.
Skills:
- Previous mechanical, electrical, and P&ID documentation experience.
- Direct experience with PLC programming, troubleshooting, debugging, and maintenance.
- Industrial Automation Application/Software knowledge.
- strong preference for Rockwell Automation software knowledge.
